On the one side it like the idea that there is a code-freeze and only bug-fixes are applied to get a version of PHP that works as expected, on the other hand i very much dislike the idea that useful features are held back for political reasons. But a code-freeze will not happen and as youself said, it's impossible to take care for two major releases.
