I use RCS for picoWiki versioning (which is kind of single file pre-CVS). It works well with the way wiki manages files and versions. I am not sure what you mean by resync'd but for read-only purposes it should be enough to either 'wget' it; get the text files and run local picoWiki server; or generate html snapshot.
