same DB(cluster) and NFS share for storing messages ? From practice, yes.
And you are correct with the usage of dumb nodes, thats exactly how you
make existing services "HA"
Another option is to use a postfix/exim backup server to store emails
when the node is down, and forward them when it is back online.
BTW: Remember to sync the vector value in the config as well as the
piler.key across your piler nodes.

We might have to figure out how to manage sphinx, but that is moslty
what I try to do with HA setups, take out the most important data and
make the software a "dumbnode".
Would that be an idea to start with ?

I only have a Piler: ERROR in my GUI but mails are coming in just

check config-site.php for PILER_HOST. It should match your FQDN or IP-
address of piler.

no failover feature 8yet). The best bet is to setup two independent
archives, and have your mail server to forward emails to both. Then
your users normally use only one host, however in case of a failure
you may fix the dns entry of the gui, and users start using the other
host.
And as usual, it's highly recommended to backup the archive. If you
have a virtualized environment, then cloning a VM, and provision the
copy is pretty straightforward.

I don't follow: I've written the docs, and I'm not aware of anyone writing
'more'. As I said, if you think the docs needs improvement, feel free to
