Growth potential of prolactinomas in men: is it really different from women?

George,
I really think our Pituitary tumors are equally undetected or detected late (male or female). I have really been amazed at how little GPs know about them (of course there are so many symptons). Our hormones overproduce or underproduce. Sometimes several, sometimes one, sometimes all. Most insurance companies do not want to pay for an MRI. Nor is the  bloodwork the "run of the mill" norm.
I was told my severe headaches were being caused by stress when it was actually a pituitary adenoma with apoplexy. The tumor was covering my pituitary. My neuro said he thought he could get it all and told me that sometimes they reocurred. I ended up with a spinal leake and my pituitary does not function. I don't know if it was from the surgery ("getting it all") or not. I never even questioned it. I knew nothing about pituitary tumors and would have thought they were all the same. For a couple of years I didn't know how to find any information or really didn't know I should. I've learned a lot from Minnie, Meri, and all the others at Pituitary Chat and am so glad to see others finding information before taking the plunge into surgery.

Regards,
Cindie (VC)
