Hi Lindsey, I do believe that pit cysts/tumors grow because of hormone fluctuations. Cysts/tumors rarely "go away," but they can burst or "apoplexy" which would require immediate surgery. Treatment depends on the type and size of the mass. Some tumors secrete hormones and others are considered "non fuctioning," though all pit masses can cause problems because of the hormonal imbalance it causes. I commend you for educating yourself and learning as much as you can about your condition. When I was 19, I relied completely on the doctor and suffered my symptoms in silence without treatment for five years. It is very important to learn all you can about your condition. Please let us know what your doctor says. If she suspects a pit cyst/tumor, you need to have an MRI with and without contrast. You should also find an endocrinologist that specializes in pituitary disease. Please ask any further questions you may have. Take care. You're in my prayers. Meri |
