No, the doctor cannot ignore this, and you are very, very lucky this didn't get serious very quickly. The tumor, as it grows, can compress your optic nerve and can cause blindness. There are also very important endocrine issues to consider with an enlarging tumor. You need to do what you can to seek the advice of an expert "off the base".
