Hi guys.  I am new here but some of you know me from MaryO's Cushing's board, where I post a lot even though I don't think I have Cushing's.  I am not diagnosed but my endo suspects a pituitary problem.  Anyway...I had one of those "what the *&[EMAIL PROTECTED] is happening to me" moments the other day when I pulled a baseball cap out of my closet (one that I hadn't worn in about a year) and it was too small to fit on my head.  So now I am wondering about acromegaly.  But I did have IGF-1 tested and it was okay...it was 330 and normal range is 114 - 492 (I am 25yrs old.)  So I am wondering, is a single normal IGF-1 sufficient to rule out acromegaly, or is it one of those things where you need a glucose tolerance test or something to make the diagnosis?  Also when I had that blood drawn for the IGF-1 test, I hadn't eaten at all for 2 weeks.  Seriously.  I know that really screwed up some of my other tests and made the results hard to interpret, and I read that fasting lowers IGF-1, so I don't know what to think.

I don't have the typical acromegalic appearance, although my appearance has definitely changed significantly.  I don't know, maybe I am just grasping at straws here looking for an answer.  Any of you guys with acromegaly have major problems with appetite loss or nausea?  These are big problems for me, and I have eaten extremely little for months but gained about 30lbs very quickly.  My endo says it has to be fluid retention (and it really doesn't seem like I have gained fat) but it isn't "typical" edema and he has no explanations.  I know GH promotes fluid retention too so that's another thing that got me thinking.
