Hi Sorrrel!
I have Acromegaly, but my symptons are a little different. My tumor not only is producing GH it is also producing Prolactin. My doctors misdiagnosed me for over 2 years. I was told that I had insulin insensativity and put on a drug called Metphormin. They told me that this drug would regulate my insulin and my cycles. What they didn't tell me is that they give this drug to women who have had trouble getting pregnant. What a shock me and my husband had about two mo. in when we found out I was pregnant! I am definitly not complaining because he is absolutely the best thing that has ever happened to me. :o) After having my son and finishing breastfeeding, I finally got smart and found an endo who within two min. of seeing me she said, "It looks like you might have Acromegaly, lets run some test and see what we find." The next day she called me and confirmed it.
I think the key is finding the right doctors. Find a specialist and keep searching for answers. Have your endo check your IGF-1 again after you have had a proper diet for a few weeks. Check out the Pituitary Network Association, they have a list of doctors around the world who specialize in pituitary disorders.
I would really like to know how your MRI turns out. Keep us informed and no matter what, keep searching until you find an answer and a doctor you can really trust! Don't ever give up!
