Thanks for getting back to me, Betty.

<<<<<Have either of you had the tumour grow back?>>>>

>>The tumour was 5+ cm 8 years ago - had 2 operations - damaged pituitary - left most of the tumour in there. Grew back. Dr. Gentili thinks he got it all this time but that will depend on the MRI results.<<

Do you know if the damage to the pituitary was due to the presence of the large tumour, or because of the surgery itself?

>>>>>There is another surgeon in Toronto named Harley Smyth who may have done more surgeries.<<<<<

<<Yes, he would have been our second choice if we had decided against Dr. Gentili. Don't know how many he has done. Both have done many many.>>

Apparently Dr Smyth has done 1593 pituitary surgeries.  I'm a little surprised more doctors don't count.

<<Exactly what do the doctors say when you tell them you are looking for a second opinion? Personally, I would say "goodbye" to that type of a doctor in a hurry!>>

It's not the surgeons themselves who say anything directly about not liking that I've been researching.  It's been their secretaries and other supporting doctors, ie endocrinologists.  One receptionist told me, "You know, the surgeons don't like it when you shop around."  Then I had to politely remind her that we're talking about drilling a hole in my head;  perhaps the doctor's ego is the least of my worries.

Anyway, best of luck to you and your partner.  A 5+cm growth is a big one!  I hope all goes well.

Vanc.
