JoAnn, I am not sure where or what procedure you are having done, but I had my transsphenoidal surgery 3 weeks ago today. I read and read (and re-read) the boards trying to get a feeling for what it would be like. I am an admitted wimp, and it really was not all that bad. I would not go as far as to say it was painless, but very bearable. I had a easy surgery, but needed a lumbar drain which was the most uncomfortable part (and not that bad really) it was removed the next day. The removal of the nasal packing was fairly uneventful- I would not want to do it on a daily basis, but not as bad as you would think either. You can always ask for something before- help allay the pain/fear. It was offered to me, but I declined and was fine. I remember sleeping for 18 hours a day for the first week- that was strange, but apparently my body needed that. I was not oneof these that hit the gound running so to speak. Into week 2 I started working out (lightly) and week 3 I am re-starting my marathon training - which started this whole endeavor. Smell and taste took a few weeks to return, my nose is still stuffy 1/2 to 3/4 of the time- really hoping that goes away soon. I do have some pain in the left nostril-(ENT tomorrow). I hope this helps. The first week for me was rough because my body was in shock from the hormonal difference and the surgery - I slept! The third day of the second week I turned the corner and felt great, but my body reminded me if I did too much. This third week I feel almost back to normal- with the exception of my hydrocortisone being tapered down, I felt a slight dip there, but then I think my body acclimated. I think that covers it for me, but feel free to e-mail me if you want. I will pray for you, we all will. This is an amazing place, right? all the best, breath and try to relax. ...in a few weeks you'll be writing to another newbie calming them down M |
