Majid, My tumor was removed by a local neuro-surgeon (Anchorage, Alaska) who does about one petuitary tumor a month. Surgery was considered urgent due to appoplexy of the tumor and damage being done to my right eye. I was unable to fly out to a specialist since this happened during the no fly period following 9/11/2001. My hospital stay and nasal packing lasted a little longer than most because the ENT and neuro used the older under the lip approch, however they got all my tumor and everything went as they had planned. I had no time to research my neuro prior to the surgery, but I have found out since that he is a nationally known surgeon who has conducted research and published many articles related to neuro surgery. I would agree with others on this board that it would be best to have surgery performed by a nationally known expert who performs 100s of pituitary surgeries a year, but good outcomes can be had with lesser know Doctors who are competent. The nationally known experts can't posible handle all the cases. If you find a doctor who has performed several of these surgeries per year with a good success rate I would not be overly concerned.
