Well, you are talking to the lady whose pcp DROPPED her while I was at the
airport, waiting to board the airplane home. I had a PICC line and had to get
home health care set up over New Year's weekend. The excuse was the pcp didn't
want to be the middle man. The bad part was since I had a PICC line, I needed
saline flushes to flush the line 2x per day (my veins had collapsed, so they
were taking blood draws from my PICC). Fortunately, my husband called his
pcp, and his pcp worked me in the day of New Years eve. He sent me to the E.R.
where they flushed my line and gave me extras. He set up home-health care
starting the day after New Years. My husband's PCP got on board really quick
and stepped in to do the coordination of all my doctors appointments and tests.
Believe me... I boo hooed too. So, even with me, the best of plans went belly
up when it came down to the moment of need. What you need to do before you
leave the hospital is to have written instructions for the "in case something
happens", with the contact information for the endo, hospital, and any basic
labs you will need run at home. The endo will probabaly have your pcp fax him
results. Go ahead a get a post operative appointment set (at home) with an
ENT, and with your PCP. See if you PCP can get you in faster with a hospital or
independent endo in your area. You'd be amazed how quick a schedule can change
when the call is from a physician. Minnie
