Surgery is not an option right now so they are beginning with the medication. I have had Acro for about 12 years and was finally diagnosed in August last year. Since then it has been constant testing and doctor visits. My insurance finally approved the medication Sandostatin about a month ago but I am still in the middle of all the paperwork...authorizations, certifications etc.. I realize that alot of people with Acromegaly are able to function somewhat normally on the meds and with the surgery but my health is a little too far gone at this point. The acromegaly has caused alot of damage that can not be repaired and has caused some other diseases I have to progress more rapidly. My doctor does not want me to work anymore. I was on disability for 13 years and went to work for the first time nearly six years ago.
