----------------------------------------------------------- From: nedaTN Message 7 in Discussion Sherry, My husband Bill was diagnosed with Acro about 4 years ago. He's been on disability for the last 2 1/2. He also has Bipolar disorder, glaucoma (most likely because of the acro) and Acro. He first applied for SSD when he was first disgnosed with bipolar disorder about 12 years ago. He was actually approved but they managed to get his bipolar stabilized with meds and he really wanted to work so he returned to work before he ever drew the first check. Now the second time around he had an episode with his bipolar and we made the decision it was time to reapply. So we did. Make sure that you list every single condition you have. Like I didn't think him having glaucoma would make much difference since it is totally controlled by medications but when the lady from SSD called about something I happened to mention it somehow and she said that everything was important. I guess it goes toward what all you have to deal with on a daily basis. It went really well though and he was approved no problem and started drawing after the 5 mths waiting period. It was tough on us financially for those 5 mths since he wasn't working at all but we did get thru it. It is so much easier for me now that he's drawing SSD because he his jobs before were low wage and no benefits and being sick or having a dr's appt meant lost wages and work was sooooo much stress on him and actually the cause of the bipolar episode that made us decide to reapply. Talk to your doctors about you applying as well. Make sure they all know of your decision and why. It may make a difference in how they write thier recommendation.
