Boy – o – Boy – Mommyof8
– I assume from the description of your symptoms that you have a growth
hormone tumor. While you only see the outward symptoms and consider them
tolerable you need to understand what the tumor is doing to your organs. The
excess growth hormone will impact your organs and can cause heart failure. My
son is 20 and has been diagnosed with Acromegaly since 17. He has had one
surgery – and came out of it saying “I could do this every 5 years
if I had too.” He was eating Taco Bell in the neuro-ICU the morning
after his surgery. The doctors did not get the whole tumor, and now he is
treated with 30 mg Sandostatin LAR each month. It is inconvenient as he needs
to have a nurse inject the shot, but it keeps the growth hormone under
control. But, I can’t imagine his life without the shot. Please
consider the impact on your organs, and talk your choices over with your
doctor. I wish you luck – Chris – Ogy’s Mom

Hi,

I was diagnosed in October of 2006 and have yet to
make up my mind about what I want to do. I had pretty mild symptoms
that my doc fortunately picked right up on (swelling, puffy hands and
facial features and excessive sweating). Other than that, I've been
really fortunate. That is why I hesitate so much to do any medication
and/or surgery. I am so afraid that I'll feel worse with the meds or
surgery and I love my life right now. The only thing that really
bothers me is KNOWING that I have this darn thing in my body. I would
definitely be interested to know if people felt better before or after
    their treatments.
