I agree it is possible that later firefox versions do better at implementing the svg 1.1 spec, but that would mean that there is a problem with the w3c validator that is telling us that our -dev svg results are within the 1.1 spec. I hope that w3c has gotten their validator right since so many people depend upon it! My own alternative hypothesis is firefox 3 has expanded their svg support like you say beyond what was provided by the firefox 2 version which renders our svg results so nicely for me. However, I assume that reworking must have introduced bugs in the part of the spec that they supported properly before and which is used by our -dev svg results.
