Well to each his own.  I myself don't like how staroffice is just as bloated as
MS Office [or even more, with all that X Windows bloat],  but i choose to use
Linux because it's much more convenient for me, rather than maintaining a dual
boot system and keep on having to reboot each time i need to open a word
document.  Either that or nudge out an officemate from his windows computer so
that i can make a proposal.  Nope, It simply is not practical.  

Linux serves my purposes, and serves it well.  I don't do desktop publishing,
i don't do games, i don't do M$ development.  And you know what, a great
majority of people don't do them as well.  I never said "use linux for
everything".  I'm merely pointing out that i myself have no use for Windows
anymore, and in fact a whole lot of other people are the same as me.  That's my
point.  Not the sweeping generalization you mentioned above.

And if the open source community of developers just address the issue of
software bloat in X Windows, we will have a system comparable or even faster
than the speed  of commercial systems.
