Hi there everyone,

Apologies for the off-topic message. I've got this urge to go buy some
books that I will hopefully get to read and will hopefully help me by
strengthening my theoretical foundations (now I'm more a practical person
than anything). I need your honest book and author recommendations for the
following topics:

- C/C++
- database design
- operating system design

For C and C++ books I was hoping for more language-oriented books than
compiler-oriented ones, and for operating system design some things that
will hopefully help me understand the basics, and perhaps lead me to start
reading kernel code (??).

Thanks for the help and for the patience (for the extra bandwidth). :-)
