I think what we lack is a strong representation in Congress. We need to urge our
"beloved" congressmen to push through open source. Strong influence comes from
the academe. As much as possible, spread and practice the use of OSS in education.
We need to have a solid plan, an established study on how open source can replace
proprietary software.

Let's put this to work. For my part, I'll be writing to my congressman soon after I gather
all the materials/points/issues that I can give to convince him to pass a bill for open source
adoption in government.

This crackdown has given us a wonderful opportunity to show the worth of open source.
Let us sieze the moment, and do this now.

hmmm.. talking about students and FLOSS....

I have a short story here...

I am from an academe...

yesterday the NBI come to us(not to raid us but don't know if spying) to ask employees if we want to have NBI Clearance.

While they were in the office the raids become the topic of the conversation and open source as alternative. They(NBI) also said that in Linux there will be no cybersex w/ video because there is no webcam and there are no games for their children and STAFF in the office. In the middle of their chatting a CD from CHEd arrives and I was called to check what's inside the CD...

In the CD there's a memo about the "new" data gathering of CHEd. Which they call HEinfoSys.  The  memo  was written in M$ Word and data in M$ Excel. And the "program(?)" was "written(?)" in M$ Access.

How can we switch to FLOSS if government mandate us to use M$?

Now for those in the academe can we have ask theme(.gov) to use open standards?

Not sure if this is an OT sorry po....

Hmmm, so far almost all online games have confirmed that their games work on linux....they just got to find a way around the gameguard issue.  If it work you can see 40+% of the gaming market shift to linux, probably cedega, fedora or wine cause most games seems to work there.

So it seems it has started to happen all around the country. I still
have doubts if GNU/Linux can make a dent here (given the stone-cold,
stone-walled mindset of "Internet cafe" gamers and their owners who
basically don't have much of a choice), but it's worth a try.
