There was a very long thread about this a few months ago--try looking for it in the archives. IIRC, the consensus that emerged was that special-purpose appliances would probably be better for most applications, except in certain cases, e.g. if you wanted to do proxy caching (appliances that can do this cost more than PC's). -- To err is human, but to foul things up takes a computer.
