FOSS ain't freedom? Man, that's hilarious!

FOSS is not freedom. Free Software is freedom.

this is why Stallman and many others hate the FOSS monicker. because
people with vested interests can hijack it with semantics like "FOSS
is not freedom."

i am sure Dean and many others think the way they do because they've
written some neat app on top of a Free stack and the heck they don't
want their work to be "infected" with the viral GPL. he would find a
ready and willing ally in Microsoft.

well -- so long as your software is in-house, it need not be given
away. even Stallman says that. but if you sell it to the public, and
you use GPL code in your software, you are obligated to comply with
the terms of the GPL.

people tend to think "i did this thing.. it's mine, nobody has the
right to take it away from me, that's infringing on my freedom." but
many people's work is 80% Free software stack and 20% theirs. and they
want to keep their 20% closed even while leveraging the 80% work of
the community.

and while that is a normal, greed-driven motive, it is not compatible
with Free Software. is it compatible with OSS? yes. but not with Free
Software.
