the server runs centos 4.x on x86_64 and the installed version of the php, mysql and apache is 4, 4.1.21 and 1.3 respectively, however the files/sites that we plan to transfer to this server runs on php5, mysql5.1 and apache2.2 on the other server, how will i upgrade to the version we want without messing up the server, we currently administer it via cpanel but we also have root access to this dedicated server.
Hello Jan, Is the target server administered via cPanel/WHM? (I seem to be confused with your post). If it's currently using cPanel/WHM, you have to update your packages using its own "Apache Update" procedure - otherwise, you'll break integration with everything else on the cPanel machine. For example, on one of our servers - someone before upgraded the MySQL package. What happened after then, was that the database functions from the cPanel accounts no longer works. Users are unable to create/manage their MySQL databases and everything had to be done manually from the command line. Regards, Matt -- Stand before it and there is no beginning.
