That's right, thanks for reminding me about custom software.

However from the venture capital point of view, like consulting, this
requires a lot of labor per client. The VC wants an application which
is developed once and sold gazillions of times.

But as another poster pointed out, you can do that and still be
Freedom-friendly by operating a web-based service.
