Then those Blackberry's is a sure way to go! Our sysadmins (windows admins) uses it on monitoring, logging to servers, etc. Im pretty sure it works with linux too and you can in fact write your own applications (Java) and upload it to your BB's.
I have my BB for two years now and it is the best gadget an IT professional (developer, sysad, etc.) could ever have. Just be sure to get an unlimited data plan. My provider is AT&T (will use either SMART or GLOBE in the Phil.) on EDGE network. BB server is in the US and speed is not a big issue. I can RDP to a windows terminal from the Philippines to US at a reasonable speed. iPhone is good to (only issue is the touch "keyboard"), I swapped my AT&T BB sim to my iPhone and SSH'ed to a remote US linux machine. As usual speed is quite reasonable. Either way i have tried both and it suit my needs.
