In our case its not Linux, but Unix (via OS X Leopard). This direction
also came to be because majority of our customers are utilizing the
same environment, and and on the sysad view of things, since all our
servers are in Linux, having OS X as our desktop provides seamless
management. Same toolchains, security profiles, etc. I'm pretty sure
it can be replicated in a Linux perspective though, but the desktop
experience is key.

But then, this is purely from a standpoint of a software development firm.
