There are limited books and documentation. You have to dig in to the community and the code. But we have done it. If you want to go this route you might want to use our middle ware Business Objects Interface (BOI). It can interface with legacy database and output XML that can be processed by XML aware applications. It is opensource and available at this link https://launchpad.net/boi-php Holden
