Good idea. Unfortunately, I have run into another problem. Opening System > Administration > Time and Date presents a dialog box that does not allow me to do anything until I successfully "unlock" it. There is a button labeled "Unlock," but when I click on it and enter jjj's superuser password it pops up "Could not authenticate. An unexpected error has occurred." Then I decided it was high time to set a root password, so I went into System > Administration > Users and Groups. Again, the dialog box has an Unlock button, but attempting to unlock it returns the same error message. All of these actions run glacially slow. Finally I set a root password from the command line with "sudo passwd root." This appeared to work successfully; that is, I can become root now with "su" by entering the password that I just set. But I still get the error messages when I try to "unlock" anything, including the Time and Date utility. Note that this is Intrepid x86_64. It's bedtime. I'll deal with this more when I am awake tomorrow. _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
