But have a password on the root >account for when it is required. I agree with Michael. I have had a root password set for a long time, even back in the days when I had Ubuntu on my laptop. I was surprised to discover that I had never created a root password on my Ubuntu desktop. And now that I have Fedora on my laptop I note that the install utility prompted me for a root password automatically, but I had to add myself to the sudoers list before I could use sudo. I like the idea of using sudo for day to day stuff, but when push comes to shove it's nice to be able to become root for real. Truth be told, I use the same password for myself and for root. But I live alone and the only others with access to either computer is the occasional burglar. And if a burglar gets their hands on the computer, the password will be a moot point. In fact, I do backups more out of fear of thieves than of disk failure. _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
