And now I learn that the system's been hanging now and then for the past several weeks, so it needs hardware diagonstics and repair. There are a couple of places in SW Portland and Beaverton, and one in Mall 205. Since I have no experience with any of 'em I'll take it to the CompRite store at Mall205 tomorrow. In the meantime, a 32-bit Slackware-14.1 installation on the old Toshiba, replacing Ubuntu of a year or two ago.
