According to HP's support site for Linux you should use the HPLIP driver. Assuming you are connecting to the HP-4100 via ethernet, the first step is to determine what IP address the printer is set to. You can find this out from the printer's control panel. Make sure its IP address is proper for your home network; i.e., if your home network is (e.g.) 192.168.0.x make sure the first three numbers that the printer is set to are also 192.168.0. Jot down the number, or even better, put it on a label and paste it on the side of the printer. Next, in Xubuntu go to System > Printers. Assuming you have already installed the printer, right-click on it and select Properties. Making sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network, next to the Device URL box click on Change. In the window that will pop up click on the little triangle to the left of Network Printer. In a short while you should see the printer pop up. Select it and proceed through the series of windows that will pop up. When you get to the place where you select the driver choose HPLIP. If this doesn't work, report back where it went wrong. You can also bring your laptop and the printer to the next Clinic at Free Geek on November 22 (1-5 pm). The HP 4100 is about 19 kg, but we have carts and muscles to help. _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
