Charles,

   Are you using DHCP or static IP addresses?

   What is in /etc/hosts?

   That might be how CUPS is configured, but it's not an IP address. Your
local area network (LAN) is likely to be 192.168.1.0; check your router's
admin pages (or the label on the rear or bottom for the default IP address).

   Needs the root password (root tends to be the default admin).

   I wonder if the printer is on a different subnet from the wireless
laptops.

   More experienced folks than I can offer better advice on diagnosing the
specific problem source.
