The Brother ADS-1800W portable scanner runs on USB power. I assume my desktop provides power over a USB port, and my Lenovo ThinkPad-T430 has 2 USB 2 ports, of which one provide power. The scanner comes with a cable that has a male micro usb plug on each end (the plugs are the same size as the ones that fit in my mobile phone.)
Looking on Amazon I found a micro usb female to usb a male adapter, but one reviewer said that it would not pass power, which capability is needed by the scanner. I'd appreciate suggestions for a brand or source for this adapter which will provide power to the scanner from a computer. TIA, Rich
