"almost" is good way of stating that. But to install a default
setup will only keep you free from a majority, but not all of them.
It only takes a single virus, hack or exploit to hit the news.
It requires a good administrator to keep a system totally free.
Your best bet is to familiarize yourself with the Linux system you
plan to install soon.
A couple of months from now, install the next crop of Linux
flavors with the new 2.4.0 kernel. It is faster and has built-in
safeguards to prevent the current crop of hacks from ever
being used again.
Microsoft will have to tear down their windows vs. linux page
soon as it was based on kernel 2.2.xx which has already been
updated. :-))

Saying GIMP is "beautiful" is the understatement of the year.
Let's see....where do I start?
Like Photoshop, the GIMP has both tool boxes and a menu system
that will make you feel right at home. It uses layers, channels and
paths and has UNLIMITED undo levels, which if I remember
correctly, came only recently to Photoshop. It has selections and
masks, gradients and gradient brushes and blend modes. It has
patterns, palettes, an indexed palette, filters and numerous plug-ins.
It also has a scripting module called script-fu, with which you can
write your own effects without having to program. Create your
own version of Xenomorph! Put Alien skin to shame.
It has guides and can edit video too. I'm currently using
version 1.1.25. The newest version, just out is 1.2.0
Lastly - if you can't wait, get the Windows version, also
at 1.2.0 - it's just 12 MB and comes complete already!
