acls for linux is the answer. jijo i think has given
the url for it. note that it's not just patching
the kernel, you also have to update disk utilities
and it has compatibility problems with nfs, samba,
etc. therefore, it's abit unstable.
AFAIK, solaris 7 & 8 has it for many years, the
getfacl/setfacl combo. But the OS which have plenty
of acl features is on... gasp! win2k. (actually,
netware. but hmm...)
That is why win2k is always ideally being deployed
as a file and print server.
