if they don't know how to use FTP yet, then don't use FTP... if they're using Windows, try WinSCP. Secure FTP (sftp) of SSHv2 is nice such that there's a concept of a session, but only commercial CuteFTP on Windows supports that, AFAIK. this is because FTP transmits passwords UNENCRYPTED. if they already know FTP, well choose a secure daemon for that purpose.
