Hi Michael,
#Does anyone know of a good web -> SMS gateway that I can use to text my #wife? # There's a few freebie web->SMS services out there (e.g. ICQ's, quios.com) but the problem has always been getting messages back; not to mention Ph-based wireless providers are selectively blocking messages from such websites. The other option is to subscribe to one of the GSM providers in the US. Personally, I'm using VoiceStream Wireless to send, and receive messages to/from my folks in Ph (from IL). The only issue is that messages from my folks are sent as "email" to my cell's assigned email address ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) -- this is a current limitation of the VoiceStream subnetwork in the IL area.. Other VoiceStream subnets, specifially what used to be OmniPoint (NY, NJ areas) can recieve SMS messages from international GSM phones. But the good thing about it is, Ph-based subscribers get dinged only PhP2.00 as opposed to PhP10.00 with international SMS messages. Below outlines how Smart, and Globe subscribers send messages as email. o For Smart: email_account(subject)message then send to 200. ex. [EMAIL PROTECTED](wala lang)test message. o For Globe: Ex. [EMAIL PROTECTED]@ here is a test Then send message to 2300 BTW some Cingular subnetworks (e.g. PacBell's in CA) have GSM too. To make this on topic, I use xgnokii (http://www.gnokii.org), a GUI-based SMS client for Linux, to send/receive messages, and to manage my contact list -- I hate working with dinky keypads. ;) HTH jeff -- -- Jeff Gutierrez Mapua Online! http://www.mapua.org http://www.mapua.com http://www.mapua.net Pinoy Ako!
