Sun knows that Linux will kill them inch by inch. Definitely in the entry-level server space that is true. The only reason for buying a Sun Netra T1 is not because it runs Solaris.. but because it's cheap! if you buy an Intel 1U server blade, it's not gonna run much less than $999. Which is the cost of the Netra T1. And the T1 is NEBS certified, etc. For now [quote from Larry McVoy] Solaris is safe in the high-end space. Linux simply doesn't compete there. Yet. That's the operative word, YET. If you consider that an IBM Regatta server can be partitioned to run Linux on one CPU and AIX/5L on the others.. or that AIX/5L is source-compatible with Linux.. you can guess that at least one Big UNIX company sees where the UNIX ship is going.. -- Orlando Andico <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mosaic Communications, Inc. _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
