it's a HAPPY coincidence that Linux does the job right. After all, if it
didn't do the job right, no one would use it, right?

i'm GLAD that Linux does the job right. I guess if there were no Linux, or
Linux was rotten, I'd use BSD. Or Sprite. Or Mach. Or Hurd. There is a lot
of choice out there, choice that Microsoft would wish you don't have.

I'm not dissing Microsoft products per se, they have their uses. But don't
assume that they are the end-all, that they will monotonically improve.

The minute Microsoft has no credible competition, you can expect free bug
fixes to stop. You can expect them to want to control the way you surf.
What kind of music you can or cannot listen to. Heck, let's not stop with
music. Movies, books, the whole DRM shebang. You can expect them to
squeeze every last bit of your money out for substandard (willfully or by
incompetence) software.

Wait a minute.. they're already trying to do that now.
