While a good idea, summaries often go hand-in-hand with an off-list answer policy. Questions are usually tagged "Reply to me off-list; I'll post a summary in a week". I tend to prefer on-list replies more, though.. <g> However, if the summary is helpful and not just cut-and-paste (no summaries should be cut-and-paste, anyway!) it would be extremely helpful for Googlers and other people searching through the archives. If we can tag such summaries with, say, [SUMMARY] in the subject line, or otherwise clearly indicate that this is a useful message, that would go a fair bit of a way toward making info available. > That would be exactly solved if the askers > summarize the answers. So definitely this approach requires more thinking than the save-to-a-mailbox- and-post-in-one-fell-swoop thing I've also seen on some other mailing lists. (People who do that usually get, ahem, gently reminded never to do that again.) Likewise, people who reply with one-liners really should consider their reply carefully - "Thanks!" is probably better off in private, although when searching for information on the Net I've also found "Thanks!" to be a pretty good indicator of what worked, especially since "Thanks!" one-liners tend to quote whole messages.. <wry grin> -------------------------------------------------------------------- Sacha Chua <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 4 BS CS Ateneo geek =) Ateneo Cervini-Eliazo Networks (ACENT) tel: 63(2) 426-6001 loc 5925 _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
