The RAIDZONE OpenNAS storage appliances (which compete with NetApp) use 
IDE drives inside. NetApp also has an entry-level appliance which uses 
IDE. So obviously, for MANY things, IDE is good enough.

(but then the RAIDZONE appliance costs $20k or so.. so it doesn't exactly 
qualify as entry-level)
