guys,
i would like to clarify and clear it out to you what is DHCP.. dhcp is a
dynamic host configuration protocol.. dhcp allows hosts on a tcp/ip network
to request and be *assigned* ip addresses, and also to discover information
about the network to which they are attached (eg. domain name server
address, default gateway, subnet mask, etc).
dhcp supports three mechanisms for ip address allocation and these are:
1. automatic allocation - dhcp assigns a permanent ip address to a client
2. dynamic allocation - dhcp assigns an ip address to a client for a limited
period of time
3. manual allocation - a client's ip address is assigned by the network
administrator and dhcp is used simply to convey the assigned address to the
client.
mostly most of you think that dhcp is number 2 mechanism only but
unfortunately isnt... its up to your policies which suited to your needs..
therefore, the main purpose of dhcp is not to give a dynamic allocation of
ip address but an *ease* of configuration and administration to a host.
fooler.
