Mikol, Holden and [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks for your inputs.

I am indeed subscribed to ph-linux-newbie. My problem is that none of the
PLUG lists seem to match my profile:

1. I am not really a newbie having dealt with Linux for a couple of years
now.
2. At this point in my career, I no longer have any interest in matters like
setting up servers and fire-walls and such
3. I avoid using software that I am not licensed to use, so I use Linux as
an alternative to proprietary OS's that run on the x86 platform
4. My main interest is in using Linux as a working platform to do
non-computer related work such as emailing user lists ;)

I suppose, in short, I'm looking for a regular user group similar to PhilMUG
(Philippine Macintosh Users Group) very few of whose members are MIS
professionals but use their computers for creative work and who share
techniques and tips pertaining to a common platform.

My impression with ph-linux-newbie is that it caters primarily to Sys-Ads
and developers who are new to linux probably having migrated in from Widoze
NT or other Unix flavors. The majority of the questions are related to these
topics and I suppose this is the intent of this forum -- to serve as a place
of first resort for these sorts of persons.

Is anyone interested in forming, from a Philippine Linux community
perspective, a forum catering to the use of Linux for non-MIS related
matters? Not necessarily a newbie list per se but one that deals primarily
with users who want to forget that a terminal application is available and
will probably run a CLI once or twice during installation but never again
after (if only such were possible.) Users whose primary interest is not the
OS itself but what it can do for non-hackers.

I suppose in a real sense I'm looking for a true alternative to the Mac
which is starting to charge ridiculous prices for a Free-BSD plus super
interface - OSX

Thanks again for all inputs,
Ricky Munoz
