we should appreciate the fact that RedHat spends thousands of dollars just to ensure that the software they release is tested and functioning. not to mention the security efforts they are placing into their products. saying naman ang effort ng mga taga-RedHat. instead, we can grab the base from RH and write specialized software for ourselves (and release them as GPL of course). thus, coming out with an improved product.
does this friend in "DOST" realize how hard it is to maintain a single software application? much less a whole caboodle of them? i believe in RedHat's efforts because they have their huge user base in mind. as such, they are more concerned about the product they deliver. besides, who do you think most of the glibc and gcc people work for? how about the number 2 linux kernel hacker? two cents from a software engineer concerned about shipping a product.
