Are those "other hosts" you mentioned also uses a wireless network 
interface card or are they wired to a switch? I'm thinking that your
wireless network card is connected to a "wireless router", that is
connected to your switch, and has the same subnet as the "wired" host
you are pinging and pinging from. This is what we have in the office.
