See, it's like this. 

We have a wireless access point/router which we use to accommodate some
of the laptops that has a wireless network card. This wireless router is
connected to the switch where all of our workstation and servers are
connected. 

Now, The IP address of the wireless router/accesspoint is, say
192.168.0.40, and the workstations, which are wired to the switch, have
an ip of  192.168.0.1-10. The wireless router also has an another ip of
192.168.1.1 and laptops that connects through it must be set to have an
ip of 192.168.1.x

Therefore, the laptops should be able to ping the wired workstations
but, any wired workstation won't be able to ping any of those laptops. 

If this is your case, then the "others hosts" you mentioned would never
get through the access point. I think it's important that you know what
your access point is and how was it configured. :)
