I am connecting to wired hosts. The access point of the wireless interface is wired to the local lan so i should have no problems pinging. =(. I've considered tiger's sol'n by disabling the local firewall of my linux box but still cant ping to it... =(

I'm thinking that your wireless network card is connected to a "wireless router", that is connected to your switch, and has the same subnet as the "wired" host you are pinging and pinging from.
