The Philippine Patent Law (Republic Act No. 165) does not allow protection for computer program inventions. Unfortunately, that's only because there are no existing guidelines or enabling law. Expect this to be challenged by the "enterprising" big companies. Anyway, I think that it's undoubtedly onerous if not whimsical to patent software - as software is just a collection of algorithms, which in turn degenerates into truth statements. Unless we already allow patenting the expressions of the truth, there's no good reason why software patents should even exist here. -- -->paolo Paolo Alexis Falcone [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] _____________________________ Philippine Free Network Group free.net.ph -- Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Official Website: http://plug.linux.org.ph Searchable Archives: http://marc.free.net.ph .
