Sysads,
I'm putting up an internal step-by-step guide on "How to turn a bare metal machine into a functional thingamagij server".
The server I'm documenting is a bit complex. It involves an IPTables-based firewall, JBoss that connects to SQL Server, Apache that proxies to IIS, some CGI scripts in Apache, Samba, and some Perl scripts. The nearest thing I know of to a documentation like this is the OpenACS installation guide[1], a guide to a very-difficult-to-install application server.
Any tips on the structure of a Linux server documentation? Are there any standards or document templates out there?
