I'm using mozcom's webmail. The colwidth is 50
by default, which is fine for me, it's like a
"newspaper style" column which ppl have found
out to be easier to read.

That is your opinion. windowsupdate works well
for me and my techie friends, no problems we
have encountered as a desktop. I'm using XP SP2
candidate release 2, and even if it messes up my
system, System Restore can bail me out at any
restore point past date.

Half point for you though, production machines
don't use windows update and are disabled.

It just so happens that i love the freeware
kerio PFW. There is zonealarm or Agnitum Outpost
Firewall. Whatever suites your need, use it.

yes. i much prefer hardware firewalls.

You sir, don't know what you are talking about.
Currently, It does not matter which OS you
choose. Windows can be good with uptime and be
stable at the same time in either desktop or
server mode. it really depends upon the skillful
hand of a windows system administrator or the
guy managing the desktop.

Have talked to some win SA's, and they have seen
NT 4.0 uptimes of 2.5 years and a year for newly
deployed win2k. And these win machines are being
used in processing payments for banks, real
estate, insurance companies etc.

Are you shocked? Is it voodoo? no siree. It's
just your simple 3 or 4 tier archictecture,
Firewalls in the front and in between the tier,
and IDS in front of it. add a branded hardware
for it next. Nothing fancy.

Maybe you are basing your windows crapiness
experience on your home/friend/school/other
machine (which could be low end which ultimately
has crappy hardware and drivers from an obscure
taiwanese company.) or what you read in /. which
is juvenile/half right/totally wrong but
moderated up post because it defends linux and
thrashes windows.

I'm just giving you a perspective on what
windows can do in the real world. Of course, In
the server arena, the choice would be *nix
rather than windows, but that is just me.
