I use a 233Mhz P about 64megs. I installed rh7.3 on it with lesstif or openmotif and as a window manager it runs fine. for heavy stuff like netscape/mozilla i tend to run it on a bigger server and display them locally.
I suggest also consider turning these into X-window terminals isntead (think X -query bighost) then you can run any wm you want (if your bighost is big enough). your specs is overkill for such a client configuration. The same config above also can do kde or gnome IF kde or gnome ran on my remote bigger server. well its not a distro suggestion but i'm just putting out more ideas.... jondz On Sun, 2004-08-22 at 23:28, Carlos wrote: > i'm recently thinking of migrating all the > workstations in a school computer laboratory to > linux... the specs of the comps are 500mhz celeron, 64 > mb ram... 8 gig harddrive. i've tried mdk.. suse... > lycoris... redhat.. even slackware.. but they all > crawl in the comps.. kahit yung simple lang na window > manager ang gamit ko. are there anymore distro's you > people could suggest for such slow computers?? > > thanks > > carlos > > > > _______________________________ > Do you Yahoo!? > Win 1 of 4,000 free domain names from Yahoo!
